　　十九世纪的英国诗人拜伦隐居于瑞士乡间的古堡，过着狂放的纵欲生活。一晚，诗人雪莱带着他的十九岁情妇玛莉（即日后以创作“科学怪人”小说成名的玛莉·雪莱）、玛莉的异母妹妹克莱儿以及拜伦的私人医生约翰波利多（日后创作了小说“吸血鬼”），一起来到古堡探望拜伦。当晚风雨交加，五人决定围坐一起大讲鬼故事，于是发生了各种匪夷所思的怪现象，也促成了两本经典恐怖小说的诞生。
