Following the Marshal's death his family suffered considerable economic hardship. Not only were they excluded from public life, but they were harassed, many of their assets seized and Ney's pension rights as a general official in the service of France cancelled. In fact at this moment in time only Bernadotte came to their rescue financially. Despite differences with Napoleon leading to his joining the Allies, the former Prince of Pontecorvo, now the Crown Prince of Sweden, still regarded his former colleague Michel Ney with feelings of affection. Upon learning of Aglae's difficulties he offered her two eldest sons commissions with the Swedish army.
It wasn't until after the "July" Revolution of 1830 that the family's problem were finally eased. The lawyer Dupin stood close to the new "Citizen King", Louis Philippe. He obtained a state pension for Aglae of 25,000 francs per annum; also she was allowed to place a bust of her husband in the Pantheon and his portrait was hung in the Musee de Versailles. In the interim though Coudreaux had had to be sold. After being seriously smashed up by the Prussians-to the point of being unliveable in-it then became a serious liability. It passed into the family of General Count Honore Reille, Ney's subordinate at Waterloo and become a marshal himself in 1847. The chateau and estate still belong to his descendants; and the present count is also the Mayor of Marboue.
